Networking
Many small businesses and schools are starting to see the benefits of networking their computer systems. Whether it be for sharing files and printers or sharing a broadband internet connection, Liosdoire Computers can provide a networking solution to meet your needs. We can supply and install both wired and wireless networking solutions.

Liosdoire Computers use D-Link network products. D-Link is the global leader in revenue and market share for Wireless and Ethernet networking for both consumer and SOHO (small office/home office) users. Founded in 1986, D-Link is dedicated to making networking easy and affordable for its customers, offering innovative, award-winning products that seamlessly integrate with a variety of devices and applications.

For the most part, Liosdoire Computers recommend wired networks. However we may decide that wireless is a better option in situations where many laptop computers are used, or where the structure of a building may make the installation of cables difficult.

Hub

The network hub is the central point of a network. All computers are connected to it. The picture above shows a D-Link DES-1024D switch which contains 24 ports. The ports can be used for computers, IP cameras or wireless access points (below).

network cardNetwork interface card (wired)
This is the card which connects the computer to the network. When installed in the PC, a cable is run from the network card to the hub.

Wireless, although slower than a wired network, has many benefits - especially for laptop computers. An access point is the transmitter for the wireless network. These typically have sufficient coverage for one room. Multiple access points can be installed to allow access to the network from anywhere in the building. These can be connected back to a network hub or act as repeater stations, relaying the signal from other access points within its range.

This serves the same purpose as a wired network card, but it connects to an access point. No cables are required. This makes a wireless network ideal for customers who require mobility.
